What is a "benefit rider"?

A "benefit rider" is an additional insurance benefit that you purchase in order to cover services that are not covered by the health insurance plan you have initially selected. For instance, adding dental benefits to your employees' health coverage would be considered a "benefit rider" if it's not already a standard benefit. It would require your firm (or you) to pay an additional charge.
